Masjid Hajjaj

Masjid Hajjaj is litterally built on top of Luxor Temple. Some of the stones used to build the mosque is covered with hieroglyphics.

Luxor Temple

The excavations were carried out sporadically until 1960. The whole temple was covered by earth, with a mosque on top of it. The mosque is still intact on top of the temple.

Used to be located on the Philae Island, but due to floods and the Aswan dam, the temple was dismantled and relocated to nearby Agilkia Island.
